The Charity Shop DJ Picture Show

First seen at the Boris Baggs Gallery, Paddington, the Charity Shop DJ Picture Show is a visual and audio celebration of musical heritage.

Andy Jupp AKA Charity Shop DJ recently took his Charity Shop DJ Picture Show to Mumbai.

The idea is simple: Ask somebody - anybody - to be photographed with their favourite record.

No matter who they are, everybody has a record which means something to them. Artwork, sleevenotes, familiar tracklistings, a predictable scratch in the vinyl, the record as a physical object.

And, of course the music itself.

Music shapes identity and colours memory. The images above feature some of the people who made the Show.

The Charity Shop DJ Picture Show has been featured in The Independent, The Observer and on Radio 4

Charity Shop DJ has also performed at the Nehru Centre, London

Vintage Indian Vinyl Collection, DJing and Reminiscence Work

As founder of the EasyAction soundsystem, Andy Jupp AKA Charity Shop DJ, holds an extensive collection of classic 'Bollywood' soundtracks on vinyl which he plays and mixes live using DJ decks and sound equipment.

As part of his set he urges the audience to select a track - a sometimes poignant experience which often triggers a memory and a story. The format has also been used in reminiscence sessions.

Andy regularly corresponds with Suresh Chandvankar, the Hon Secretary of the Society of Indian Record Collectors in Mumbai, who holds a formidable collection of 'pre-Bollywood' vinyl. Click here to see ‘The Record News’, the annual magazine of the SIRC (text only).

Andy has performed at the Nehru Centre, London, has played a live Diwali special for the Oxfam Oxjam Festival, and frequently takes his music into local care and day centres.

Andy has been featured in 'Confluence' magazine (below).
